Timeless and Functional
Andrea Körmer's work is defined by a distinctive, stripped-back design language.
Andrea Körmer studied design at Aachen University of Applied Sciences and the Peter Behrens School of Arts at Düsseldorf University. She completed her Master of Arts in 2017 and has been working as a product designer ever since. The furniture and products created in her Bilk studio share a common DNA: timelessly understated, dynamic, and purposeful. Her design philosophy centers on clarity and essential form—nothing more, nothing less. What truly drives her work is the dialogue with clients. She listens, collaborates, and develops solutions that make everyday moments more seamless. Take the "Gemeinsam Essen" (Eating Together) tableware series, conceived during her master's thesis. Körmer designed bowls, cups, and serving platters with intuitive handles that encourage shared dining. The Inviting Bowls tilt in two directions, making it effortless to reach olives and snacks from any seat at the table. The Disc Plate features a rotating handle, accessible from every angle. The paired cups—designed to break apart exactly once—create a tangible memory of the meal shared. Then there's "Brot(s) Brüder," a modular street food stand that reimagines the classic German sandwich (Stulle, Knifte, Schnitte) for contemporary urban culture. Built from individual beech slats and shelves, it assembles quickly and travels easily from location to location, bringing this timeless culinary tradition to life wherever it goes.
