A Fresh Perspective
Reimagining a Medical Practice: Where Functionality Meets Warmth
Taking over an established practice, the ophthalmology clinic needed to step confidently into the future—both functionally and visually. The client's vision was clear: bright, welcoming spaces, intuitive layout, and materials that feel inviting. Six months of thoughtful planning and execution delivered exactly that: a contemporary practice where efficiency never sacrifices warmth. The design concept, developed by Alexa Schraverus Interior Architecture, draws inspiration from the eye's photoreceptors—rods and cones—subtly translating this biological principle into architectural language. Warm wood tones paired with the iris's natural palette of blue, green, and brown establish a serene, restorative atmosphere throughout.
The interior architects completely reimagined the practice's spatial organization: a logical flow clearly distinguishes between patient and staff zones, while open yet purposefully defined areas support the patient journey—waiting, preliminary screening, and a secondary waiting area before treatment rooms. An equally thoughtful lighting strategy reinforces this hierarchy, with ceiling and pendant fixtures echoing the rod-and-cone motif while complementing the wood palette and creating visual rhythm. Materials anchor the design: chevron-patterned oak flooring establishes quality and permanence, while soft avocado green and crisp white walls inject freshness and calm. Custom-fabricated room dividers, finished in stone cladding, serve double duty—providing essential storage while gracefully defining zones without rigid barriers.
