With different eyes
Redesign of a medical practice combines functionality and warmth
After taking over an existing practice, the ageing ophthalmology practice was to be given a new lease of life, not only functionally but also aesthetically. Bright, friendly rooms, a clear structure and inviting materials - these were the client's requirements. The result after a six-month planning and implementation phase is a modern practice that combines functionality with warmth. The basic idea behind the design by Alexa Schraverus Innenarchitektur is based on the visual cells of the eye - rods and cones - and subtly translates this concept into the architecture. Warm wood tones, combined with the natural hues of the iris in blue, green and brown, create a calming ambience.
The interior designers have redefined the structure of the practice: Clear pathways separate the patient and staff areas on the one hand and open structures with clear zones for waiting, pre-examination and a second waiting area in front of the treatment rooms after the pre-examination on the other. An intelligent lighting concept underlines this division: ceiling and pendant luminaires pick up on the rod principle as well as the wood tones and set accents. Of course, the materials also play an important role: the oak parquet flooring in a herringbone pattern conveys quality, while wall colors in avocado green and white provide freshness. Room dividers made to measure by the carpenter and then clad in stone not only provide storage space, but also structure the room in an elegant way.
