Jungle Vibes with a View
High above in the Ericus-Contor, an extraordinary work environment has emerged
Located at the intersection of downtown Hamburg and the Speicherstadt, at the eastern entrance to HafenCity on the historic Ericus Bastion, stands the striking Spiegelverlagshaus and Ericus-Contor ensemble, surrounded by water. On the 9th floor of the Ericus-Contor, which functions as an office building, you'll find Officepoint One Hafencity, offering individual and team offices, conference rooms, and coworking spaces. These premises stand out not only for their prime location and spectacular views of HafenCity and Lohsepark, but also for their premium finishes and amenities.
Architect Christoph Janiesch, who also works in interior design and design, conceived and outfitted this workspace across approximately 1,000 m². Drawing from the often hectic and noisy experience of the daily work commute—navigating through thousands of others, dealing with traffic, public transit, and uninspiring offices—Janiesch developed a guiding concept for Officepoint One: The Big City is a Jungle!
He stages the "jungle" theme, transforming it into a serene, inspiring retreat. The architect's design objective is the abstraction of colors and forms that subtly creates a distinctive atmosphere throughout the spaces. The diversity inherent to jungles is embodied by those who work here, connecting to the secondary theme of "international." Whether entrepreneurs, freelancers, startup teams, or project groups gather for meetings, workshops, or networking events, the jungle serves as the motivating foundation for creativity and collaboration.
The jungle's base palette consists of orange for wood and earth, green for the plant world, and white for clouds and mist. These colors appear in varying tactile qualities across seating, acoustic elements, carpets, lighting, and furnishings. An array of wood surfaces and potted plants, along with living walls, convey a vibrant atmosphere. A consistent warm gray tone anchors the diversity of colors and materials with elegant restraint. True focal points are the wallpapers featuring expansive jungle scenes rendered in both bold black and soft pastels—they read like paintings. Artistically reduced geometric animal figures complete this accomplished jungle workspace design.
