Wine is love. Love is life.
East Grape – Frankfurt's Wine Bar in the Ostend
Ralf Müller-Arnold's passion for wine took shape during his banking career—a calling he eventually couldn't ignore. The idea of opening a wine bar became inevitable.
He discovered the intimate wine bar in Frankfurt's vibrant Ostend district inside a meticulously restored building. Working with architect Frank Wiedemann from Projekt 62 in Worms, he transformed the blank space into exactly what he envisioned. Their shared goal was simple: create a space where genuine connection and pleasure go hand in hand. At the heart sits the "Stammtisch"—a high-top table crafted from a single oak trunk. Clean lines, thoughtful acoustics, knowledgeable hospitality, and a carefully curated wine selection define the experience. The philosophy: authentic, honest, and unhurried.
East Grape focuses primarily on German wines, currently featuring eleven of the country's thirteen wine regions—with the remaining two coming soon. The 190-strong collection is rounded out by select European and South African options. Müller-Arnold knows his producers personally and has visited their wineries. Every wine on the list reflects his conviction that quality always trumps quantity—a principle that's earned recognition from leading wine publications. For lighter appetites, the menu offers carefully chosen cheeses and cured meats, olives, Spundekäs with pretzels, and chocolate tart.
So what does the wine specialist himself reach for? Bold, unconventional wines that challenge expectations. You'll certainly find something to match that palate at East Grape.
