"You built our dream home! We're incredibly proud of it and feel completely at ease," the homeowners say of architect Stephan Bohlender's work at R2.design in Gelnhausen. And rightfully so. Bohlender thoughtfully crafted a modern, cubist composition featuring covered outdoor areas, flowing terraces, and an expansive open-plan living, dining, and kitchen zone. Positioned on a sloping plot with breathtaking valley views, the design strategically showcases these varied perspectives and the home's key areas. Generous glazing throughout amplifies this effect.

The front entrance opens directly into the entry hall with its generous cloakroom—and so does access from the double garage, creating a seamless entry experience. The ground floor features an open, sociable living space encompassing living, dining, and cooking areas that generously accommodate family and guests alike. Bedrooms and children's rooms occupy the upper floor. From the viewing terraces, residents enjoy expansive views across the surrounding landscape. The guest area in the lower level opens directly to the garden, ensuring visitors can also enjoy the greenery. A home office finds its place in the lower level as well.

Built with ecological and sustainable materials, the home is heated via an air-source heat pump with underfloor heating. A photovoltaic system provides substantial coverage of the household's electricity needs. Both the ground and upper floors employ timber-frame construction with cellulose insulation and soft-fiber wood boards as the exterior base layer.

Notably, through extensive consultation, detailed models, and 3D visualization, the architect persuaded local building authorities to approve a flat roof design—a significant achievement, as the area's development plan originally prohibited flat roofs.
