Agile Workplace Culture
Perched at impressive heights, creative spaces designed for both small and large teams foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and networking opportunities.
Picture a home cinema in one corner, a garden room in another, and a games room just beyond—where creativity truly comes alive. These are just three of the many distinct spaces that make up Freiraum, an innovative workspace created by kplus konzept for Vivawest, a leading housing company. Spanning two office floors of the Nordstern Tower at the company's headquarters in Gelsenkirchen-Horst, Freiraum sits at a spectacular elevation. Here, state-of-the-art creative spaces accommodate groups of any size, fostering meaningful exchange, knowledge transfer, and professional connections. "With Freiraum, we've created somewhere special—a departure from the everyday office where our team can tackle tomorrow's challenges creatively, surrounded by cutting-edge technology and an inspiring atmosphere," explains Claudia Goldenbeld, spokesperson for Vivawest's management board.
The layout features modular team workstations, dedicated zones for stand-up meetings, versatile surfaces for both analog and digital content visualization, and quiet retreats for individuals or small groups. Each space is thoughtfully equipped with the latest technology, office essentials, and creative tools—all designed to support diverse working styles and workflows. Carefully curated design elements, color palettes, materials, and lighting create distinct atmospheric qualities in each room, often enhanced by subtle acoustic touches: the fireplace room, for instance, welcomes you with the gentle crackle of a virtual fire. A floor-based wayfinding system connects all spaces, enabling even visitors to navigate intuitively.
"Forward-thinking corporate cultures thrive in purposefully designed spaces—workplaces that enable flexible thinking, encourage experimentation, spark creativity, and facilitate meaningful communication. These elements drive employee engagement and foster genuine work-life balance. Research consistently shows that in agile organizations, productivity rises in tandem with employee satisfaction. And as competition for top talent intensifies, companies must offer workplaces that deliver both exceptional atmosphere and superior quality of life," notes Markus Kratz, managing director of kplus konzept. The design clearly resonated: the jury of the DW Future Prize for Real Estate recognized Freiraum's achievement with an award last year.
