Albert Dijkman is the creative force, founder, and managing director of FraaiBerlin, a family-run furniture studio. Born in the Netherlands, he initially studied photography at Groningen's Minerva Art Academy. He moved to Germany in 2012 and established FraaiBerlin in Friedrichshain in 2016. In the studio, he and his team craft bespoke pieces that marry industrial aesthetics with authentic craftsmanship – combining vibrant, rustic solid wood from Germany and the Netherlands with timeless steel design. Tropical woods are never used. The furniture fits seamlessly into retail spaces, restaurants, and private homes alike.
The collection spans dining tables in industrial and country-style designs, coffee tables, benches and stools, shelving, sideboards, dressers, beds, and nightstands. Take the Jasmijn/Donoe dining table: it masterfully balances two contrasts – cool, solid iron paired with warm, characterful reclaimed oak. Surface imperfections, subtle cracks, and natural color variations transform each table into a truly individual piece. Built for longevity with a triple-coated, low-maintenance finish, the sanded and waxed planks – measuring four to five centimetres thick – emphasise its unmistakable industrial character. The rustic Verdon bed, crafted from construction timber, embraces minimalist principles: here too, the wood's natural irregularities are integral to its appeal. The four to five centimetre thick planks are sanded and waxed for a durable, easy-to-maintain surface. Standard widths range from 120 to 200 cm with a fixed length of 200 cm, though custom dimensions are available upon request.
