Reimagined Spaces

The existing garden receives a complete transformation—complete with a pool and accessible walkways that invite exploration from every angle

A family with a home at the foot of the Swabian Alb had a vision: transform their garden into a more livable outdoor space. Their brief to the landscape architects at Faiss was clear—expand the terrace significantly and integrate a swimming pool. After exploring various concepts to find the pool's optimal placement and impact on the overall design, the family made their choice: the front garden would become their new pool area. Smart choice. The elevated position frames views of Teck Castle and the surrounding apple orchards, while the entire garden now flows seamlessly from area to area, inviting you to explore every corner.

The planting design balances structure with poetry—a framework of grasses and silver-foliaged perennials punctuated by carefully placed poppies, scabious, globe onions, and montbretia. These flowering highlights, with their delicate, floating inflorescences, create a distinctly Mediterranean mood poolside. Year-round blooms from asters, sage, and catmint sustain interest for both residents and pollinators alike. Multi-stemmed specimen trees in umbrella forms gently divide the garden's zones, while wooden planks frame the water's edge and an 80-centimetre-high travertine wall anchors the transition to the wooden walkway. These materials continue throughout: the expansive terrace, sized generously for the family of five and entertaining, features 90 × 60-centimetre travertine slabs. Just beyond, slightly sunken, a wellness area with a whirlpool functions as a private green retreat. A raised wooden walkway circles the entire garden, connecting all spaces. Travertine paving in varied sizes creates the pathways—each detail reinforcing the garden's warm, inviting character.
