Christian Meissner embodies the philosophy of a craftsman and designer. A native of Düsseldorf, he initially studied aerospace engineering at RWTH Aachen University before pursuing an apprenticeship in carpentry. In March 2021, Meissner founded productum, a furniture manufactory in Neuss, bringing on Pascal Lachmann just seven months later. The two carpenters had first met during their joint apprenticeship. Since then, Lachmann and Meissner have collaborated on creating durable furniture and design pieces guided by three core principles: the thoughtful use of sustainable, premium woods; timeless design; and the ability to repair pieces easily as needed. Currently based in Neuss, the manufactory will relocate to Oberbilk in early 2024. Their work brings wood together with complementary materials—steel, glass, and polymers—creating unified compositions. The Kito sideboard pairs oak with linoleum, two distinctly different materials that achieve visual harmony while remaining easy to maintain and remarkably durable. The Eneo side table features two powder-coated steel components in contrasting tones, with a 40 by 40 centimetre surface. Equally at home as a nightstand, it adds a vibrant accent to bedroom spaces. The Ren side table showcases solid oak, offering a practical surface for books, coffee cups, and magazines. It works beautifully as a standalone piece beside a reading chair or clustered in front of a sofa.
