Everything but ordinary
City villa with hotel-inspired character and a soaring three-story open staircase
The owners envisioned a Hamburg-style city villa with classical influences, a vision that interior design firm Minterior brought to life. This villa-like new build sits gently on a sloping site, providing a welcoming home for a family of four and their dog—a perfect fit for the serene 1980s residential neighborhood. The garden level thoughtfully incorporates an independent guest suite with direct garden access, alongside utility areas and a dedicated fitness space.
Step into the dramatic dark blue entry hall with its striking oversized round mirror, and your gaze immediately sweeps across the three-story open staircase—the visual heart connecting all levels. Black steel frames the tuning-fork-style banister and the glass entrance to the home's true centerpiece. The adjoining bar area sets the stage for warm hospitality, where guests are greeted with an aperitif. This hotel-like ambiance was a deliberate choice by gracious hosts who love to entertain. Before the evening unfolds, they invite guests into the thoughtfully crafted kitchen, complete with a substantial island for collaborative cooking. Once dinner is ready, a sleek black glass-and-steel sliding wall can discreetly separate the kitchen from the dining area—allowing hosts and guests to settle into the evening at the grand table, enjoying unobstructed views of the bar and crackling fireplace.
Deep color accents define the design language throughout—flowing seamlessly into the upper floors and master suite. Warm oak parquet flooring paired with "Elephants Breath," a neutral palette for walls and doors, infuses each room with both freshness and personality. Thoughtfully dressed windows frame the abundant natural light, while carefully layered indirect ceiling fixtures and accent lighting create an inviting glow. Every design choice reflects the owners' worldly travels and diverse living experiences—convention simply wasn't an option. This philosophy emerged immediately during initial consultations with Minterior, inspiring a bold and unconventional approach to color, materials, and the mood boards that guided the entire design process. The result? A meticulously considered home where every detail—from the largest gesture to the smallest flourish—reveals true craftsmanship and intention.
