Vibrant workplace design with contemporary flair

A blue sofa, verdant accent walls, and striking imagery set the tone at Tomra Collection Solution's German facility – a vibrant, forward-thinking workspace. As a global leader in automated reverse vending, optical sorting and peeling systems for the food industry, as well as waste and metal recycling solutions, Tomra has brought the same innovation to its workplace design. The company enlisted workplace specialist merTens from Willich to reimagine the space, creating what became a landmark moment in Tomra's corporate journey. The vision went beyond operational efficiency. The leadership wanted to craft a distinctive corporate workplace grounded in activity-based working principles – a place where modern work culture could truly thrive.

"Our client understood that a forward-thinking office directly impacts employee satisfaction – and in turn, strengthens their brand as an employer," explains Jennifer Mertens, merTens AG. To realize this vision, the team designed transparent, open workspaces that naturally encourage collaboration and organizational agility. The Tomra brand itself became part of the story, reinforcing employee identity and customer connections while reflecting the company's open, collaborative culture.

From the welcoming entry zone and customer experience area to the inviting work café, collaborative zones, and agile project spaces, every element reflects a cohesive vision – one that balances functionality with thoughtful design. The cheerful color palette radiates optimism while natural motifs weave throughout, emphasizing the company's environmental commitment. "We integrated people directly into the design narrative," notes the corporate workplace specialist. The result: a distinctly tailored corporate environment for Tomra – one defined by personality, purposeful differentiation, and alignment with their corporate identity.
