A passion for wine

An exclusive members' club for wine lovers now on Sylt

wineBank Sylt opened this spring as the northernmost haven for wine enthusiasts. The private members' club was conceived and executed according to the design vision of Formwaende, an interior design firm based in Westerland. Spread across 370 m² on five levels, the concept unfolds through expansive glass façades, anchored by the integrated Vitis wine and champagne bar.

The wine cellar in the basement forms the venue's true core—a climate-controlled sanctuary where 271 lockers and five cabinets housed in 18 secure vaults await members. Three floors above sits the welcoming oak community table, where members gather around the clock. Those seeking a more intimate setting will appreciate the fireplace lounge and gallery, both thoughtfully appointed with varied seating arrangements that convey understated elegance. The ground floor showcases the wine and champagne bar, a testament to the consistent design language throughout. Here, an impressive selection of premium wines is available for tasting on-site or purchase to-go. The entire space is defined by a careful material palette—refined yet authentic. Lower levels embrace deeper, matte tones, while the upper floors transition to increasingly lighter, brighter hues.

Solid, sculptural materials—steel mesh panels and polished granite—create striking contrast against the refined flooring of troweled lime marble and warm oak veneers. Every detail speaks to meticulous craftsmanship: the material combinations in the built-ins, the measured proportions of room dividers and split-level transitions all reflect a purist, Nordic sensibility grounded in honest material expression. This architectural language is amplified by a sophisticated lighting design that casts the wine cellar in an almost mysterious glow. The expansive two-story glass façade dissolves the boundary between interior and exterior, a seamless connection underscored by the integration of outdoor furnishings into the overall concept. The result is a deliberately Nordic-modern, minimalist sanctuary for wine—a refined, enduring statement befitting Sylt's exclusive character.
