Flexible and Individual
Malte Grieb's furniture designs prioritize maximum functionality within minimal space.
In an era of housing scarcity, making intelligent use of every centimetre counts more than ever. This is where Malte Grieb and his Berlin-based label Ambivalenz – founded in 2012 – step in. Originally from Giessen, Grieb specializes in furnishing solutions for flexible, individual, and space-conscious living and working. The label's strikingly minimalist designs deliver maximum functionality in minimal footprints. Though trained in economics rather than design, Grieb credits this unconventional background with helping him develop innovative solutions for compact spaces. His designs consistently prioritize flexibility above all else.
Among the label's offerings is the modular Curt sofa system, developed by Grieb and designer Joa Herrenknecht. Its genius lies in its single-module construction: individual poufs arrange freely to transform—with straps and a few simple moves—from sofa into bed or sprawling lounge. Modules come in varied colours with removable, easy-to-clean covers. The Fläpps wall system's flat shelves, tables, and chairs save space while defining it. Wall-mounted secretaries adjust to any height, and height-adjustable versions make them ergonomic choices for both sitting and standing work. Available in multiple sizes, they work equally well as desks or, in tight kitchens, breakfast tables.
