Timeless Quality

Swabian furniture manufacturer pioneering industry-defining innovations

From a carpentry workshop in Upper Swabia to a globally recognized furniture manufacturer: Kettnaker, a family-owned company with 150 years of heritage, has established itself as an innovator that reshapes the industry. At its Dürmetingen headquarters, the company crafts modular furniture systems with meticulous precision—each piece individually configurable for any room type, from wardrobes and sideboards to tables, shelving systems, and beds. The sculptural statement pieces captivate through their timeless aesthetic and bespoke character: "Bespoke furniture" embodies the manufacturer's design philosophy, earning it a place among Germany's top 50 luxury brands today.

The company's success has always been rooted in entrepreneurial agility. Founded in 1870 by Karl Kettnaker as a small carpentry workshop, it evolved under his son into a respected craft business known for bespoke production and direct sales. A catastrophic fire in 1960 destroyed everything—yet it became a turning point. The third generation rebuilt with remarkable resolve, recognizing the potential of series-produced cabinet furniture and transforming the company's trajectory. By 1987, Wolfgang Kettnaker had already stepped into leadership as managing partner while completing his studies in industrial engineering. When he became sole shareholder in 1999, he and his development team charted a bold new course: designs grew leaner and more purist, contemporary materials entered the mix. Late 1990s saw lacquered finishes added to the lineup. A striking new office building with expansive showroom opened in 2005, showcasing the broadened collection. The financial crisis forced another reckoning. "Survival meant one choice: concentrate on the luxury segment and elevate our products to true exclusivity," Kettnaker reflects. "We aimed to refine our aesthetic, embrace minimalism, and expand our palette of premium materials." The breakthrough came through innovation: the Soma magnetic exchange system redefined industry standards. Interchangeable facings allow the look of a piece to transform in mere moments, adapting to evolving needs. Kettnaker's signature lies in materials like back-painted glass and aluminum—each piece a distinct work of refined craftsmanship.
