Inspired by the Isar

A striking residential ensemble in the Au district brought to life through thoughtful interior design

Golden reflections at sunrise, crystalline waters revealing the river bed, pale river stones, deep shadows cast by night and fog – the Isar, which traces a 292-kilometre path from the Alps to the Danube, inspired Munich-based Brückner Architects to create a distinctive interior design concept for "Hoch der Isar." Located on the former Paulaner brewery grounds at Nockherberg in Au-Haidhausen, this ambitious development showcases 185 individually tailored residences – from compact city studios to expansive penthouses – ranging from 30 to 330 m². Working closely with developer Becken Holding, the architects crafted custom floor plans and curated design worlds for each residence.

At the heart of the ensemble stands a striking lobby with concierge service, offering the first glimpse of the three distinctive design worlds waiting within. Premium lighting fixtures, minimalist letterbox installations, and golden accents across entry surfaces signal the project's commitment to refinement – including an innovative "room of wishes" package delivery system. Residents could select from three carefully curated style worlds: "Golden Light," "Silver Sparkle," or "Essence of Grey," each with its own distinct material palette and colour language. The "Golden Light" design reveals the architects' deep connection to the river and their intuitive grasp of Munich's character. Warm, natural tones inspired by the Isar's sandy banks and sunrise reflections flood the spaces. Light porcelain stoneware and decorative tiles echo the tactile quality and texture of pebbles found along the riverbank. Brass accents capture the shimmering dance of sunlight on water, while an elegant composition of pebble, beige, and sand tones creates spaces that glow with understated warmth. As Susanne Brückner, interior architect and CEO of Brücknerinnen, reflects: "'Hoch der Isar' proves that one-size-fits-all solutions belong to the past. To truly distinguish yourself, you need individual, premium concepts that transcend mere material and colour selection."
