Craftsmanship with heart
Ellen Wagner and Axel Rössler are specialists in textile screen printing.
For Ellen Wagner and Axel Rössler, screen printing is everything. These Frankfurt-based graphic designers and artists have built their shared practice around textile screen printing, with a particular focus on repeat patterns for fabric. Ellen Wagner is a trained illustrator and graphic designer; Axel Rössler brings expertise in digital design. In 2014, during a five-year residency in Tucson, Arizona, they founded their screen printing label, Print now – Riot later. The studio relocated to Maintal in 2019. Within their practice, Wagner and Rössler merge aesthetic vision with graphic innovation, exploring the creative potential of textile pattern printing alongside serigraphic work on paper. Both also teach screen printing as instructors at Offenbach University of Art and Design.
Every design from the label is hand-printed onto natural, undyed textiles. All fabrics bear Fair For Life certification. Colors are chosen with environmental responsibility in mind. Following rigorous testing, each print uses a water-based pigment system that fully complies with Oeko-Tex and GOTS standards. The Print now – Riot later collection includes large-scale wall hangings crafted from double-walled Panama fabric—the extra weight ensures they hang beautifully against any wall. In homage to Swiss graphic designer and illustrator Celestino Piatti, Wagner and Rössler designed a table lamp featuring the artist's iconic owl. Their canvas works draw inspiration from modernist architectural vocabulary.
