Perfectly Tailored

Stripped down to its essentials, this house is custom-built for the people who call it home.

Architect Thomas Fabrinsky describes the building concept as follows: "Perfectly tailored to the family's needs." All family members find space for their needs, as the possible uses have been tailored precisely to their requirements. No rooms or technical equipment are left unused – everything that is available is needed and used.

The building is designed as a simple cuboid. Cut-outs such as the entrance area structure and accentuate the clear form. For those arriving, this makes the entrance to the house clearly recognisable, protected – as it is covered – and conveys a sense of welcome. The glazing allows views in and through, while the opaque curtain creates privacy – if desired. A fundamental design element that can be experienced from all rooms is the two-storey loggia facing the garden, which runs across the entire width of the house. It protects the terrace and mediates between the interior rooms and the garden with pool. High-quality, timeless and low-maintenance materials characterise the visual impression of the detached house. They are reduced to a few select materials, such as Jura limestone. This runs through the entire interior and exterior: on the façade, as terrace and paving, for fencing, as floor and wall covering, for storage surfaces in the bathrooms and finally for the framing of the open fireplace. Aluminium window frames with slim profiles, large glass surfaces and floor-level transitions from the inside to the outside, colour-coordinated with the light beige Jura limestone, convey a pleasant sense of space. Upon entering the house, you find yourself in a two-storey entrance hall with a delicate staircase leading to the upper floor with the private rooms. The coat rack and all other furniture are custom-made and, flush with the surface and without handles, appear to be part of the whole. A freestanding, open fireplace separates the kitchen-dining area from the living area, while the continuous glass façade preserves the flowing impression of space. On the upper floor, which houses the family's private rooms, the large-scale glazing offers a view of the attractive surroundings.

The house should be energetically fit for the future, so an efficient heat pump, a PV system and battery storage are part of the energy concept. The pool is also heated using renewable energy via an external heat pump. Combined with the highly insulated building envelope and high-performance glazing, this provides the basis for a self-sufficient building.
