Leather on the Wall

Restrained design speaks volumes through carefully considered details

New commissions are always gratifying—especially when they arrive through the recommendations of satisfied clients. Zimmermanns was thrilled to receive an order that originated precisely this way. The challenge: transforming a newly built and recently acquired space into something both functional and beautiful. "Our clients envisioned a refined, understated colour palette enhanced by distinctive accents," recalls Managing Director Frank Zimmermanns. "They also wanted sophisticated, functional lighting that could be controlled intuitively and with ease."

Through a thoughtful interplay of materials and finishes, Zimmermanns' team crafted compelling focal points while establishing the calm, inviting atmosphere the clients desired. Natural materials play a key role throughout. The carpet blends wool, silk, and nettle fibres; the dining table showcases solid bog oak. The predominantly white walls reveal their surprise in two strategic locations: a four-metre-high recessed television wall clad in warm beige leather, and flamed steel accents elsewhere. Warm-toned parquet flows throughout the apartment except in the wet areas. A custom-designed, handle-free kitchen integrates seamlessly into the space, its tall cabinets following the room's slope, while a small island with seating ensures ample workspace in the compact layout.

"The exceptionally crafted walls with De Castelli's flamed steel elements, Yomei's leather-clad four-metre TV wall, Bocci's lighting installation, and the stunning carpets by Jan Kath and Walter Knoll—these are truly the showpiece elements of the apartment," Zimmermanns reflects with satisfaction. Yet the path to completion posed its obstacles. Preparatory work hadn't been executed to specification: door hinges were installed incorrectly, and electrical connections didn't align with the planned layout. Through collaboration with trusted network partners, however, these setbacks were quickly resolved, allowing the owners to move in precisely on schedule.
