For approximately two years, North Rhine-Westphalia's waterways have been monitored and assessed from Duisburg. The facility, inaugurated by NRW Environment Minister Ursula Heinen-Esser, required an investment of around 66 million euros. This building complex for the State Agency for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection (LANUV) marked Aurelis's first major construction project in Quarter I at Duisburg Central Station. The project's specialized technical requirements demanded exceptional coordination and meticulous attention to detail from all parties involved throughout the construction phase.

Between January 2017 and December 2018, Aurelis constructed an office building spanning more than 6,900 m² and a laboratory facility with approximately 9,600 m² of rentable space on a 10,000 m² site. By March 2019, some 400 LANUV employees had relocated to their new workplace. The project was delivered by Aurelis in partnership with architects agn Niederberghaus & Partner from Ibbenbüren, project manager Drees & Sommer based in Düsseldorf, and general contractor Hochtief. More than 200 skilled tradespeople representing 85 different specialties contributed to the project's successful completion. The new facility incorporates approximately 300 km of cabling, 1,260 windows, and 820 doors. A canteen and conference and event facilities occupy the ground floor of the administration building. During the final six months of construction, the team focused intensively on equipping the 80 laboratories. Coordinating these complex fit-out operations required extensive detailed planning. "Wherever possible, we integrated custom equipment specifications directly into the construction phase," explains Michael Buchholz, Head of Aurelis Region West. This included installing 85 laboratory fume hoods with sophisticated control systems, as well as specialized gas and water quality systems for testing. The buildings' energy needs are now met through photovoltaic panels and district heating, establishing a high sustainability standard and enabling climate-neutral operations for the agency. Following commissioning, Aurelis earned gold certification from the German Sustainable Building Council. The adjacent multi-storey car park was handed over to operator DB BahnPark in September 2018, offering 150 parking spaces for staff.
