Light and Shadow
A city villa's interior captivates through its concept and carefully considered design details.
Elegance defines this newly built residence in a coveted villa quarter along the Rhine. Kitzig Interior Design—operating from its Lippstadt headquarters as well as design studios in Düsseldorf and Bochum—created a bespoke interior tailored to the home. Through dynamic accents and a carefully curated colour palette, the design establishes a welcoming, cohesive living environment.
The home's living space unfolds across two floors and over 520 square metres, with a minimalist window façade that opens seamlessly to the exterior. Beyond the entrance hall lies a generous living area defined by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass panels that connect to the terrace and garden. A striking floor-to-ceiling volume, clad in refined walnut slats, anchors the three-sided glass-fronted gas fireplace while discreetly integrating the television, wine coolers, and a hidden bar. This sculptural element simultaneously serves as the primary spatial divider from the adjacent dining zone. Light and shadow orchestrate the ground floor's two principal zones: the living area's open, luminous character is reinforced by predominantly white walls, while purist furniture classics, vibrant textiles, and contemporary artwork introduce striking focal points that enliven the refined aesthetic. By contrast, the kitchen and more private zones embrace restrained, darker palettes. The kitchen—designed to be optionally separated—is rendered in matte black throughout its finishes, walls, and ceiling, creating warmth in combination with herringbone parquet flooring.
The adjoining dining area gains visual presence through a striking black marble Knoll table. Varied materials and finishes, working in concert with sophisticated lighting, establish spatial drama and an evocative atmosphere. Ceiling fixtures—combining indirect illumination with directional spotlights in the classical tradition—infuse the spaces with warmth and character. This atmospheric narrative extends to the upper level: the master bath, featuring a freestanding tub and a custom marble-topped vanity, maintains a serene white palette. The dressing room adjacent to the bedroom introduces a more subdued chromatic range—warm wood tones and a plush velour carpet foster intimacy, brightened by natural light cascading from above. A masterwork of craftsmanship, this richly detailed interior achieves an inviting refinement while commanding genuine presence.
