Alpine Escape

The Olm Nature Escape, a remarkable eco-aparthotel, is redefining South Tyrol's holiday landscape with audacious circular architecture, a visionary approach to gastronomy, and complete energy independence—a truly sustainable retreat.

"Olm" is the local dialect word for "Alm" (alpine pasture) and references the property's idyllic setting among grazing cattle, lambs, and horses. But the name carries deeper meaning—it also evokes "eternal" and the idea of an endless cycle, bridging past and future. This concept inspired the architecture itself: the circular building draws from the round millstones of a former mill that once stood here. Designed by Andreas Gruber Architects (AGA) from South Tyrol, the Olm sits in the Tauferer Ahrntal valley between the charming villages of Bruneck and Sand in Taufers. It reimagines the alpine pasture as a modern, urban-inspired retreat—rooted in nature's cycles.

Owner Christian Lechner, a valley native, sees genuine sustainability as his blueprint for the future. As South Tyrol's first holiday resort—and likely the first in the entire Alpine region—this four-star superior aparthotel operates with complete energy independence. An unprecedented combination of hydropower, photovoltaics, and geothermal energy generates a surplus of clean power. The 33 residential units are wrapped in warm solid wood, creating the inviting atmosphere of a contemporary alpine lodge. Floor-to-ceiling glass opens up sweeping views of the Ahrntal's scenic landscape from every bed. Eighty percent of the suites feature kitchenettes, private saunas, and freestanding soaking tubs, all framing spectacular mountain panoramas. Several suites even include dedicated home office spaces, perfect for remote work in the South Tyrolean alpine setting.

Pet-friendly guests will find their ideal retreat in select suites overlooking the alpine meadows. The aparthotel's 60-meter circular core embraces the eco-philosophy as a wild relaxation garden with a natural swimming pond. The guiding philosophy at Olm is simple: give guests complete holiday freedom. This philosophy extends to dining, which breaks entirely from traditional half-board arrangements. Head chef Berni Aichner, advised by Michelin-starred chef Theodor Falser, has crafted a "pleasure on demand" approach. Guests book rooms with breakfast, then choose their dining experience: reserve an evening at Prenn°, the restaurant featuring daily-changing culinary themes, explore individual "dine-around" options in the region, or prepare meals in their suite's kitchenette using ingredients from the in-house specialty shop.
