Creating the perfect golden years
New care facility redefines what comfort means
When ARP Architektenpartnerschaft Stuttgart won the design competition, work began on a groundbreaking care facility and barrier-free residential complex in Rottenburg-Ergenzingen. The client, non-profit organization Hospital Pflege, had a clear vision: create a living environment for care-dependent residents that feels authentically lived-in—combining family warmth, daily routines, community, and private spaces. Each residential group received its own kitchen, transforming meal preparation into a shared ritual and creating natural gathering spaces. Fliesen-Kemmler was entrusted with selecting flooring and stairs. "We chose warm, earthy brown tones to bring residential comfort into the functional shower areas," says Andreas Merazzi, architectural ceramics consultant at Kemmler. Beyond aesthetics, slip resistance was crucial—and the small tiles in the walk-in showers needed matching large-format companions. The sanitary areas feature exclusively tile surfaces for hygiene; living spaces showcase low-maintenance wood-look PVC for warmth and practicality. "Like all our major projects, we began with detailed consultation to collaboratively select tiles tailored to this facility," explains Merazzi. His team's expertise proved invaluable: the facility was completed and handed over four weeks ahead of schedule.
