Felix Schwake designs furniture that commands space as a singular statement piece
Felix Schwake, architect and designer, established his studio in Bochum in 2006. Alongside architectural projects, Schwake and his team develop comprehensive interior solutions and bespoke furniture. His designs distill geometry, structure, and texture into their purest forms—creating a canvas for individual living: "Architecture should provide the backdrop for life, not command it." His works exist removed from the mundane; each furniture piece functions as a contemplative object within the space. Schwake's portfolio encompasses writing desks and conference tables, seating, loungers, lecterns, sideboards, and beds. His practice has earned numerous international accolades, among them the Grand Prix Winner Product of the Year, Paris (2020), the German Design Award (2016), and the Iconic Award (2018). At Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, Schwake teaches design methodology, structural design, and presentation visualization.
Among the pieces created in his Bochum Linden studio is the MMXX I cantilever chair—45 x 45 x 90 cm with a flexible aluminum core and real gold finishing. The MMXX I-I bed pairs white marble with white aniline leather, topped with an iridescent grey cashmere mattress. At 240 x 240 cm and 40 cm high, it features two drawers beneath the mattress. An optional underfloor heating system allows the bed to warm in winter or cool during peak summer months.
