Office in a Historic Industrial Building

A new flex office housed in a heritage malt factory showcases extraordinary interior design

Where malt confections and soup seasonings were once manufactured, a remarkable workspace and gathering place now thrives. With meticulous attention to architectural and interior design principles, the Munich-based Optima-Aegidius Group has breathed new life into this heritage-protected industrial complex—the former Dimalt AG facility in Allach. Renamed "The Malt," the building masterfully weaves industrial heritage with contemporary spatial design, striking an elegant balance between its storied past and modern functionality. Architect Mitra Kashani of MKP Architekten (Riedering) orchestrated the thoughtful restoration in close partnership with heritage preservation authorities, honoring the building's original character while infusing it with industrial charm and 21st-century workplace solutions.

For flexible office provider 1000 Satellites, the result is a distinctive loft-inspired environment featuring over 70 workstations, exclusive office suites, meeting rooms, and event spaces. Soaring ceilings, dramatic window expanses, and raw industrial aesthetics merge seamlessly with thoughtful interior architecture—warm wood accents, a refined white and grey palette, sculptural lighting, and vibrant plantings create visual interest. Exposed steel beams and authentic brick walls underscore the building's industrial character, their natural terracotta and deep metallic tones infusing spaces with warmth and authenticity. Bright walls and ceilings amplify natural daylight, fostering an open, airy quality. Vibrant furnishings and décor in red, green, and blue punctuate communal and meeting areas, energizing the environment and sparking creativity. The workspace encompasses open-plan areas, adaptable team zones, diverse meeting rooms, a kitchenette, and flexible event-ready spaces—all orchestrated to inspire both collaborative and focused work.

A dedicated event space accommodates up to 100 guests with a stage, professional sound and lighting systems, and staging. Complementing this are casual collaboration zones, lounge areas, reception spaces, coffee bars, phone booths, and fully appointed kitchens—designed to support both seamless teamwork and quiet retreats. The green campus directly adjacent to "The Malt" offers the perfect setting for outdoor lunch breaks and informal gatherings.
