Aesthetics and sustainability
Pia Bonnen designs functional products for everyday life
It all started with fun and an interest in design: Pia Bonnen studied product design at Aachen University of Applied Sciences. After international internships, including in Mumbai, India, she founded her label Bonnen in Cologne in 2019. The designer's declared aim is to create products and concepts for everyday life and to combine aesthetics with function, quality and sustainable production. In her studio in Cologne's old town, Pia Bonnen designs and sells vases that are changeable and adaptable to different situations - so that they last. All products are handmade in Germany and each one is unique.
Bonnen's designs include the IO series: minimalist vases with modular tops in various colors, shapes and sizes. The vase opening and height can be individually adjusted to accommodate a complete bouquet or a single branch as required. All vases consist of a white porcelain base, which can be individually supplemented with matching tops, but can also be used on its own as a stand-alone vase. It has a diameter of 85 mm and a height of 200 mm. The tops are available in different colors and sizes. The IO Y attachment, for example, has a central opening for individual flowers or branches, while the IO Z attachment can hold an entire bouquet. The individual modules can also be placed on top of each other on the base body to allow the vases to grow in height as desired.
