Simplicity – at its finest

This elegantly simple home derives its character from thoughtful spatial composition, both inside and out. The plot's edge location within the development allows for varied orientations and expansive views. Baurmann Dürr Architects strategically positioned the residential cube with its angled carport to maximize potential. The result: a welcoming entry courtyard where children can play, while the perpendicular carport structure shields the private garden and its terraces. The owners made a deliberate choice to forgo a basement. Instead, the carport houses mechanical systems, storage, and bike parking – with additional storage integrated into the ground floor. A solution that proves less is indeed more.

Family life analysis revealed the obvious: the dining area is the heart of daily routine. This is where meals happen, homework gets done, games are played, and guests are welcomed. The architects built their design around this central hub. On one side, a streamlined, open-plan kitchen with integrated storage and utility zones delivers maximum function with minimal footprint. On the other, the living area flows seamlessly toward the garden – distinct yet visually connected to the home's core. Like the entrance with its generous coat storage, every zone is precisely defined. A sculptural double-flight wooden staircase – fully enclosed – ascends to the upper floor, where bedrooms and baths branch off from the landing. The result: all four cardinal directions are equally activated in spatial terms.

The architects reinforced the home's essential simplicity through restrained contrast: white plaster meets warm-toned natural wood. This design language flows consistently throughout the interior, creating a coherent whole that stands as a refreshing counterpoint to the surrounding mixed-use development.
