Smart home design

Germany's first branch of a Belgian smart home company is located on Schadowplatz

The showroom of the Belgian smart home manufacturer Basalte was to be no ordinary showroom. The presentation in the city of Düsseldorf was to be as exclusive as Basalte's products: realized in collaboration with Maria Hassler Architektur+Design and the Basalte design team under the direction of company founder Sandra Maes, the showroom presents the seamless integration of smart home solutions in modern interior design.

The company from the Ghent area wanted a cozy, warm and intelligent interior on the top two floors of a recently renovated commercial building on Schadowplatz. As in the Belgian parent location, high-quality natural stone, elegant wood veneers and various shades of green with references to Scandinavian design were to be used. The interior designers found the planning challenge - as is so often the case with extensions - in the existing building: on the one hand, the entire cabling and floor tanks had to be accommodated in the floor with its low installation height. On the other hand, the entire electrical and air conditioning technology had to be accommodated in the smallest possible space and out of sight. Accordingly, a modern, flowing floor plan was created on the fifth floor, which connects the various areas of the Basalte Home in a space-saving manner. In the kitchen area with cooking island and a communicative dining area, the various switches, controls and sensors can be experienced up close. Here, the customer can experience the smart technologies directly in conjunction with a harmoniously designed and luxurious living ambience. The warm wall cladding in eucalyptus veneer is decoratively combined with a particularly tactile, 100% natural Argille clay plaster in "Warmwhite" and light Italian travertine. The light from the Occhio light rings is refracted particularly warmly and diffused on the smoothed plaster surfaces. On the sixth floor, on the other hand, clients can enjoy a very special home cinema experience. Eucalyptus wall cladding is also used here, but is combined with bronze tones to give the room a touch of Art Deco style. This is perfectly accentuated by a deep-pile carpet and the velour curtain in petrol. A glamorous "cinema feel" is created - naturally also by the bar with gray smoked glass and a counter made of natural stone. Its lacquered liquid metal slatted surface and integrated indirect lighting round off the overall concept in detail.
