Everyday essentials
Working from his studio in Oberbilk alongside D-Tec by rosconi, Rath has created a collection of pieces including the Yalou coat rack.
Patrick Rath studied product design at Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld. After completing his diploma in design, he established rathdesign in 1995. For nearly three decades, he has crafted furniture for leading German and international brands. His practice also extends to museum collaborations, where he creates intricate cardboard scale models of historic castles and palaces for exhibitions worldwide.
Among the pieces Rath developed with D-Tec by rosconi in his Oberbilk studio is the Yalou coat rack: at its core, a mirrored cabinet door that, framed thoughtfully, transforms into an ingenious space-saving solution ideal even for narrow entryways. Hinged via tubes mounted at top and bottom and anchored to the wall, Yalou opens and closes with understated elegance. Its interior is endlessly adaptable—from a full shoe cabinet to floating shelves, a simple rail, or a row of hooks. Then there's Kaktus, a more whimsical take on the coat rack: three green tubes of varying lengths converge in an abstract silhouette inspired by its namesake plant, with hooks designed to echo the visual language of spines. The Little Q side table, designed for SMV Sitz- & Objektmöbel, features surfaces that taper in a clean conical geometry. Equally at home in public settings—libraries, universities, waiting areas—or private interiors, Little Q comes in black or white.
