Completed in 2019, Campo Novo Mannheim student residence stands as a cornerstone of the Franklin conversion project—an ambitious new district emerging on the former site of Germany's largest U.S. armed forces residential complex. Set to fully develop by 2025, Franklin exemplifies high standards in urban planning and architectural excellence.

Franklin blends urban vitality with verdant surroundings, offering diverse housing types, commercial spaces, and an array of sports, leisure, educational, and retail facilities. Conceived as a showcase for sustainable energy and emission-free mobility, Blue Village Franklin required a housing component equally committed to these values. The P+B Group from Sankt Augustin rose to the challenge, delivering Campo Novo Mannheim—a sophisticated student residence comprising 208 thoughtfully appointed apartments that honor both the district's sustainable vision and its commitment to inclusive, diverse community living.

Urban design and architecture came from blfp planung (Friedberg). The central design challenge, as Michael Frielinghaus of blfp notes, was creating an architectural landmark through the student residence while seamlessly anchoring it within the Franklin Quarter—a balance requiring careful attention to circulation patterns and sightlines. The architecture responds sensitively to the site's character through its massing and orientation, while its generous landscaping plan creates vibrant recreational and sports zones throughout the development.

"The building ensemble now stands as a sculptural statement at the Quarter's entrance, its linear composition marking a defining moment in the district's urban identity," says architect Michael Frielinghaus. The two main structures connect via a glass bridge housing student services. Colorful loggias frame each of the 208 apartments, becoming the façade's defining feature. Thoughtfully designed interiors, innovative furnishing concepts, and digital connectivity create an exceptionally sophisticated living environment. Thirty-two apartments meet universal accessibility standards, while 105 double units actively support inclusion. Lush roof terraces feature raised planters, inviting residents to cultivate urban gardens and realize their vision of sustainable community living.

Campo Novo Mannheim represents the sixth iteration of P+B Group's signature brand, primarily developed across Germany's leading metropolitan regions. While each project shares a consistent operational framework, each receives its own distinctive architectural expression. Campo Novo Mannheim exemplifies this philosophy—a genuinely original contribution to both urban design and contemporary residential architecture.
