A Tribute to Cologne Cathedral
The bar's design at Motel One Cologne-Neumarkt draws inspiration from the city's iconic landmark
With 72 hotels across ten European countries, Motel One Group continues its steady expansion. Those who have stayed at any of its stylish properties understand the design-centric philosophy that defines each location. The brand's signature aesthetic is distinctive and consistent—turquoise and brown serve as a visual anchor—yet each hotel embraces its unique local context. Motel One Cologne-Neumarkt, which opened in October 2018 near Cologne Cathedral, is no exception.
The bar and lounge command attention with a vibrant visual experience that unmistakably channels the Cathedral's spirit. Just as the Cathedral's stained-glass windows glow with breathtaking colour in sunlight, here too, floor-to-ceiling square glass panels radiate with equally intense hues. These striking architectural elements are among many details crafted by painter Heike Simmer. The Cologne artist has created a cohesive artistic vision that captures guests the moment they step inside. The glass panels function as both wall installations and spatial dividers, infusing the space with dynamic colour, while generous sofas and supple leather armchairs reinforce the luxurious yet inviting atmosphere. Pieces from designer furniture manufacturer B&B Italia furnish the space, alongside Arne Jacobsen's iconic Egg Chair. The bar serves as an ideal gathering place for hotel guests and visitors alike—a sanctuary where relaxation comes naturally.
