Furniture with Character
At Reditum, sustainability, design, and function converge
Reditum—derived from the Latin word for "return"—perfectly captures what Jonas Schumacher and Kerstin Biller do in their Cologne studio. Since taking over the label in 2020, they've been crafting upcycled furniture from materials with histories of their own. As parents of two children, the designers share a deep commitment to sustainability. Every piece in their collections is a one-of-a-kind creation, brimming with personality and character, each bearing witness to the life it lived before.
The collection draws from reclaimed half-timbered beams, oak wine barrels, salvaged floorboards, and vintage church pews. The moveo. casa shelving system comprises modular units in 13 configurations, freely combined using discarded bicycle tubes and flat steel brackets. Each square module stands alone as a side table, shoe rack, or spice shelf. The upcycled wood receives a semi-transparent, eco-based wax finish that preserves the material's rich history—much of it sourced from single-use pallets. The pagma. hanging shelf floats freely, crafted from weathered barn boards and framed in oak salvaged from period half-timber structures. Vintage bicycle chains serve as the suspension system, their segmented links allowing variable shelf positioning. The moveo. lxxx shelving employs untreated slats angled at 80 degrees, creating a distinctly dynamic façade that subtly shifts with your perspective.
