Clean lines, strong colour contrasts in black and white, and lots of sophisticated details: this is what happens when an interior designer and a creative director realise their very own dream home. Munich-based interior designer Manuela Bross has created a harmonious interior design concept for her own penthouse apartment in Gilching, which she shares with her husband. She combines modern, timeless design with clean and natural materials and handcrafted elements – which is no surprise, as the interior designer, who comes from Ihringen am Kaiserstuhl, practically grew up in her parents' carpentry workshop and furniture store and was therefore always surrounded by design and craftsmanship.

"In my own residential project, I wanted not only to showcase my favourite classic furniture, but also to realise my passion for individual design and develop details myself that are not available as standard," she explains, adding: "In 2016, I won the Finest Interior Award for a kitchen design, so the kitchen was also going to be a highlight." Indeed, the purist kitchen area is a very special eye-catcher: Bross integrated a customised mitred Corian kitchen block she developed herself into the Eggersmann kitchen. The tall cabinet row contrasts with its dark powder-coated lacquer front, while the worktop is made of hammered stainless steel. There is also a custom-made bench with storage space. Another unique feature designed by the interior designer is the thin, floating steel staircase made of raw steel, which screws itself almost sculpturally into the upper floor and underlines the purist character. The consistently light and seamless Pandomo floor forms an elegant stage for the special pieces of furniture and custom-made fixtures.

Everything should be timeless, with accessories and upholstery fabrics in bold shades of yellow and turquoise and a pink wall adding a special touch to the concept. "Having lived and worked in many countries, I wanted to bring together a variety of designs from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and the USA," she says, combining furniture from manufacturers around the world with unique lighting fixtures. Particular highlights include the dining table with tree trunk legs by Mogg and the striking glass ball pendant lamp from New York by Roll & Hill.
