Quiet & Collaboration
Thoughtfully designed spaces that balance focused work with the collaborative spirit of coworking
In Frankfurt, there's a place where focused work meets the collaborative spirit of coworking—the Satellite Office at Opernplatz, nestled near the iconic Alte Oper. Unlike typical coworking providers, this 2,500 m² space prioritizes concentrated, quiet work. Across three levels and a rooftop, connected by a bridge, you'll find more than just open desk space. Soundproofed cubes, discreet screening, and thoughtful breakout areas create zones where productivity thrives—and so does meaningful connection. Whether you're diving deep into focused work or collaborating over coffee, the environment supports both. Kölling Architects designed this distinct approach to address a challenge many miss: how to marry the efficiency of private offices with the openness of true coworking.
The office spans three upper floors and an attic level across two building sections linked by a bridge. Kölling Architects, based in Bad Vilbel, orchestrated the design for this Frankfurt landmark. The task was complex: create a flexible, compact office structure that serves diverse tenants while preserving the open, collaborative energy that defines coworking culture. Their solution was a zoning strategy that defied convention. Rather than sprawling open-plan layouts, the Satellite Office presents a refined mix of thoughtfully scaled offerings: individual and team offices, project spaces, executive suites, acoustic retreats called Silent Cubes, variable conference rooms, casual collaboration zones, and bistro areas. "Floor-to-ceiling, frameless glass partitions along the circulation zones establish a sense of openness throughout," Moritz Kölling explains. "Combined with translucent grey-silver curtains, they create an airy working environment that feels spacious despite the careful room sizing."
The design philosophy extends to every detail. The client embraced a refined, minimalist aesthetic: a palette of warm anodized metal, grey, blue, aubergine, and white creates calm without monotony. Coupled with excellent acoustics and ergonomic design, the result is a workspace that genuinely supports well-being. Photography—subtly toned images of Frankfurt and the Alte Oper—adorns select walls in common areas and special rooms, adding personality without distraction. On the 4th and 5th floors, aubergine and petrol blue accents draw attention to key functions, including the Silent Cubes.
