Nature meets art

GussHolz combines the natural raw material wood with industrial epoxy resin.

A passion for unique pieces of wood led Johannes Widmann and Pia Marquitan to found their own label, GussHolz, in Olching in 2018. The trained timber merchant and skilled carpenter combine natural wood with industrial epoxy resin to create unique pieces of furniture.

No two trees are alike: every branch, every crack and every unique feature of the wood serves as inspiration and receives special attention through individual design. The label's tables are made exclusively from solid wood, which, due to its strong structure, is not used in traditional craftsmanship or is only used in heavily processed form with a lot of waste. GussHolz, on the other hand, uses the tree as a whole and plays with its natural, varied shapes: broken branches, twisted growth, numerous cracks, which are hardly suitable for making a classic board. The combination with epoxy resin allows these special pieces to be used and emphasises their unique growth. The design is simple and straightforward to create a contrast to the natural, highly individual raw material. Each piece of furniture is unique. In addition to their focus on sustainability, Pia Marquitan and Johannes Widmann emphasise the connection to the region: the frames for GussHolz tables are individually manufactured for each table in small metal workshops in the Munich area. In addition to tables, GussHolz also manufactures clocks made of wood and epoxy resin.
