Furniture That Does More

A Munich label crafting beautifully designed, functional, and sustainable furniture

For those who demand timeless, high-quality interiors, a designer label on a modern piece of furniture simply isn't enough – Michael Suchatzki and Marco Milch, founders of Freiraum, understand this well. Since 1996, they've been exploring what truly defines good interior design. As interior designers and furniture makers, they're convinced that furnishings should deliver more than aesthetic appeal. Which is why they test every seating surface thoroughly, stress-test chair legs, and inspect every drawer.

Through their label Objekt | Projekt, the pair established a product development firm dedicated to this very philosophy: creating thoughtfully designed pieces that captivate and inspire – like their bed². Featuring clean lines and minimal forms, the stackable bed arrives in white or black birch plywood, or solid oiled oak. It's not just visually striking and a recipient of the German Design Award 2020; with a few simple moves, it transforms into an extra guest bed. Thanks to its superior comfort, it works equally well as a permanent sleeping solution. Every component of this "two-in-one" piece is manufactured sustainably and regionally by skilled craft enterprises. For Suchatzki and Milch, this commitment matters deeply. Local production means shorter supply chains and a smaller carbon footprint. Their next venture promises to be equally compelling: the Tiro secretary desk, a refined piece inspired by Marcus Tullius Tiro, Cicero's trusted confidant and secretary (born circa 103 BC).
