Design on Fire

The miunik label creates geometrically refined fire bowls available in adjustable heights

Constructive designers paired with design-minded engineers: the seven founders of Munich-based miunik first connected in a design studio. All working for the same agency, they decided in early 2022 to launch their own product line. Their deep expertise in construction and industrial manufacturing allows the team to continuously test the boundaries of technical possibility—as exemplified by their turo fire bowl. Drawing inspiration from Japanese origami, honeycomb structures, and modern stealth aesthetics, they crafted a remarkably sophisticated geometric form. Paper folding techniques were translated into steel through a custom-developed parametric CAD design.

The honeycomb-shaped openings create an ever-shifting dialogue of light and shadow, flame and ember. Its modular construction allows you to adjust the height, and the thoughtful design of each element offers two distinct configurations: the fire bowl stacks three open rings vertically, while the fire tower rotates five or six rings so side openings face downward, providing superior wind protection and radiating sustained passive warmth. Handcrafted at a small Bavarian workshop using 2 mm weather-resistant steel plates, turo is built for lasting performance and endurance.
