Gossamer Porcelain
Annette Wibral crafts one-of-a-kind pieces and limited artistic series.
In 2018, Annette Wibral opened her studio, fragile, dedicated to handcrafted porcelain in Berlin's Zooviertel district. Here, she creates delicate one-of-a-kind pieces and limited artistic series, each following her distinctive design philosophy. A trained product designer, Wibral grounds her practice in traditional porcelain-making techniques: plaster turning, mold fabrication, casting, drying, double firing, and finishing. Yet her approach is anything but conventional. Rather than viewing imperfections as defects, Wibral intentionally introduces subtle irregularities into her work—treating them as welcome deviations that lend each piece its distinctive character. The result is typically minimalist with an understated Asian sensibility. For Wibral, this is more than craft; it's a passion. She honors porcelain's storied heritage while infusing it with contemporary vision. Her handmade collection—available in color or white—includes the Raster espresso cup series: refined vessels perfect for savoring Italian coffee, yet equally at home as luminous tea lights. Larger versions accommodate milk coffee, tea, and cold beverages. Each translucent piece features relief patterns created through screen printing. Wibral also designs a range of aperitif and breakfast plates in soft, subtle hues or pure white. Beyond her studio practice at Achenbachstraße 141, she offers workshops for those eager to explore porcelain-making themselves.
