Elevated pub fare

Tucked away in Neukölln, this is where discerning diners converge.

Restaurant Tisk in Neukölln occupies a space with deep historical roots. A restaurant once stood here before World War II, followed by a beverage shop and, most recently, a residential apartment. These substantially deteriorated rooms have now been restored to their original purpose, and since 2018, the Tisk restaurant has claimed its corner location at the intersection of Neckarstraße and Isarstraße. "Tisk" is an archaic German word for table that carries a distinctly Berlin flavour, anchoring the restaurant's identity within the neighbourhood surrounding the Kindl cultural district. Yet the name is deceptively modest—the restaurant has already earned recognition in serious gastronomic circles, including Michelin and Gault&Millau guides, for its outstanding culinary offerings.

The architects at dreigegeneinen took on the challenge of creating this intimate yet refined restaurant just off Karl-Marx-Straße. Working across 160 m² with the team from MA Möbel und Architektur, they developed a comprehensive design concept encompassing not only structural and architectural work but also custom-designed elements like the counter and kitchen, as well as the carefully curated selection of furnishings, finishes, and decorative details.

The transformation of the neighbouring former Kindl Brewery into a cultural hub has reshaped this once-quiet corner's urban identity. These early 20th-century spaces demanded substantial renovation, yet the newly redesigned interiors now feel organically rooted to the neighbourhood—a refined balance of old and new rather than aggressively modernized. The curved bar serves as the focal point, anchored by green metal stools. Rows of softly draped curtains in varying beige and brown tones echo the bar's graceful arc; when backlit in the evening, they cast a warm, intimate glow across the counter. Dark furnishings establish a salon-like atmosphere, while the deep green tilework behind the bar creates a sophisticated harmony with the rich brown tones. Hand-formed clay tiles add a natural, grounding quality to the overall composition.
