A six-by-six metre space with immovable structural elements from the shop's previous incarnation – these constraints shaped Wanda and her brother Moritz Breitenhuber's vision for "Blumen & so," their florist concept in Neuried just beyond Munich's city limits. The young entrepreneurs brought something extraordinary to the project: Wanda, a 22-year-old master florist in training, and Moritz, a 28-year-old communication designer and U5 graduate, completely transformed the shop with a bold, forward-thinking aesthetic – all while working within a tight budget.

Their design process began online, where they developed three distinct mood boards: an enchanted forest concept in shades of green, inspired by a San Francisco flower shop; a minimalist approach dominated by dark tones; and finally, Wanda's chosen direction – a clean, well-proportioned design built on light neutrals accented with gold and brass. The existing light grey tile floor complemented this vision perfectly. A dove-blue staircase railing leading to the basement was repainted black, while the landlord was ultimately won over to reimagine the ceiling. The original light grey panels now wear a sleek black coat and are divided into geometric grids by long LED strips that shift through a spectrum of colours – warm Christmas red, spring green for special events, crisp white for everyday operation – each creating its own atmosphere. A substantial brass work counter, custom-crafted by a local carpenter, commands the space and appears to float on a low base, positioning Wanda centre stage as she crafts arrangements in full view of customers. Her inventory – fresh daily cuts alongside rare botanical specimens like ornamental pineapples and exotic orchids – is displayed on white floating shelves with brass edges and square sculptural stands, all strategically lit by hidden LEDs to showcase each bloom. When deeper conversations arise – about bridal designs or funeral tributes – Wanda invites clients to the Scandinavian-inspired lounge, furnished with a simple grey sofa, teal poufs, and a sleek metal side table with linear detailing.
