Playful curves

A residential quarter where soft forms meet strict geometry

Railways and busy freight traffic once defined the character of what is now Wiesbaden's vibrant artist quarter. Over the past 15 years, the former freight yard has gradually evolved into a thriving residential neighborhood, crowned by the Curve residential quarter. True to its name, the project—comprising six buildings across 8,000 m²—centers on curved, organic forms. Designed and executed by Dortmund-based msp Architekten, the ensemble deliberately counters the area's rigid geometry with a playful, flowing aesthetic. Alongside the gently curved building silhouettes, gracefully sculptured teardrop-shaped balconies reinforce this soft visual language. Behind the clinker brick façade and triple-glazed aluminum-wood windows, the six buildings house 113 apartments ranging from 40 to 170 m². Two underground garages and a subsurface parking structure provide 117 parking spaces and 30 charging stations for electric vehicles. Every apartment showcases bright, intelligently planned layouts that deliver exceptional living comfort. The forward-thinking building systems prioritize energy efficiency, featuring radiant floor heating powered by district heating and integrated mechanical ventilation. Each residence includes a gracefully curved balcony, private garden, or roof terrace. The lush inner courtyard—meticulously crafted by landscape architects PlanD—extends these outdoor living opportunities further. Part of the expansive grounds, the dedicated playground offers young residents ample space to play steps from their front doors. Apartments are appointed with premium finishes: Dornbracht products grace the bathrooms, while penthouse residents enjoy a full bulthaup kitchen. The choice fell on the bulthaup b1—a refined, minimalist design embodying the principle of "essential reduction." Handleless doors, pristine white surfaces, and understated elegance define this timeless kitchen, ideal for Curve's open-plan living spaces. The kitchens were conceived and executed in close partnership with bulthaup's interior design team in Wiesbaden.
