After training as an interior decorator and completing an internship in New York with a furniture and textile publisher, Swen Urban studied business administration in Cologne. This was followed by positions in the office furnishings trade and a part-time master's degree in Austria with stays abroad in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Vancouver. In January 2020, Urban founded his label urban interior project.

Coat14 is one of the product lines that he designs in his studio in Dreieich and manufactures in Seligenstadt: A foam module serves as the basis for the individual seating elements. This is finished with the patented, silicon-based Coat14 coating technology. The two components can be used to create designs ranging from individual items to series products. The low material usage is particularly suitable for a straightforward, seamless and timeless design. The coating is skin-friendly, easy to clean, water-repellent and UV-resistant, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use - e.g. in reception, waiting and office areas, schools, nurseries and museums. The foam module is cut into the desired shape using a CNC-controlled cutting machine. The coating is then applied manually to the open-structured foam piece. No solvents are used in the process. The coating seals the foam and creates a flexible, soft and leather-like skin. Thanks to the simple production process, Urban is able to create bespoke furniture in a relatively short time.
