Faithful restoration of a representative house from the Art Nouveau period

The three buildings at the beginning of Uttinger Bahnhofstraße stood empty for two decades and fell into disrepair. The original building was built in 1899 by Mayor Leonhard Resch. Since the beginning of the last century, it had been the commercial center of the village as the Steinhauser department store and bank. The architects Sunder-Plassmann were awarded the contract to buy the building because they promised to restore it. The firm has frequently demonstrated how carefully and precisely they deal with historic buildings and was recently awarded the Munich Metropolitan Region's prize for building culture.

The striking tower with its copper sheet spire no longer existed and was completely restored. "Haus der Gestalt" can be read on the façade of the three-building project. A low-rise building adjoins the representative three-storey main building, and the architects have set up their office on the first floor of both buildings. The third building is a smaller detached house, which now houses the Wohnforum furniture store on the first floor.

The care and attention to detail can be seen everywhere here. As much of the original substance as possible has been preserved. Skilled craftsmen from the region were recruited and now it is a real treat to see the finished house. In addition to the commercially used rooms on the first floor, four apartments were created. The houses were insulated with an ecologically valuable layer of hemp and plaster base boards. The roof also had to be completely renovated. Comb plaster lends structure to the façade and a surrounding plinth visually connects the three buildings. Inside, old wall and ceiling paintings from the Art Nouveau period were found, some of which could be preserved. The renovation was a success and Utting has its old center at the village fountain again.
