A space designed for comfort

A peaceful retreat with generous natural light, open flow, and intelligent storage solutions

A couple transitioned from their family home—where they raised their now-adult children—to an elegant penthouse featuring a sprawling roof terrace. SDW Design orchestrated both the interior and exterior design. The homeowners envisioned a serene retreat: a light-filled space with unobstructed flow and ample storage. Through thoughtful floor plan organization, precise lighting strategy, and a carefully considered color palette, the interior design team created a refined living environment tailored to the couple's lifestyle.

The 200 m² penthouse strategically centralizes utility, technical facilities, and a guest bath, with all functional zones—entry, living, dining, cooking, sleeping, working, and guest quarters—flowing naturally around this core. The generous foyer features a dedicated wardrobe and opens into a seamless living-dining-kitchen space, subtly articulated by custom low-profile storage pieces. The freestanding cooking island pairs with a counter-height table and bar seating, while a generous dining table with upholstered chairs anchors the gathering space. The living zone, with its sofa and armchairs, frames views of the surrounding landscape and connects directly to the 120 m² roof terrace—also designed by SDW Design. The adjacent guest suite, complete with its own bathroom, enjoys equal terrace access. Continuing the sequence, a dedicated workspace integrates a custom library wall system. The primary bedroom mirrors this storage strategy with its own wall unit, en-suite bathroom, and private balcony. The lighting scheme brings sophistication through carefully curated fixtures. Swiveling ceiling spotlights provide focused illumination for cabinetry and accent artwork and gallery walls, arranged in pairs or mounted flexibly along hallway rails. Recessed cove lighting along suspended ceilings establishes a soft, ambient glow throughout. Targeted recessed fixtures highlight key zones. A premium KNX control system makes adjusting all lighting scenes intuitive. The palette centers on a luminous, saturated blue, energized by warm orange and red accents, anchored by natural oak flooring and doors—creating visual cohesion. Tactile, stone-hued materials reinforce the chromatic narrative, while refined black details—handles, switches, fixtures, and frames—provide subtle punctuation and depth.
