The property's location inspired the designers to adopt an L-shaped floor plan for the residence and to create a setback, covered outdoor living area.
The clients envisioned a contemporary, livable single-family residence with strong connections to the garden and an emphasis on privacy—requirements that Schiller Architektur pursued with unwavering consistency and minimalist architectural language. The property's corner location at a street intersection inspired the designers to adopt an L-shaped floor plan and to create a setback, covered outdoor living area. This space is protected by both a privacy screen wall and a dense hedge boundary. The streets run along the north and east sides of the property, while the double garage features direct access to the main residence.
To architecturally distinguish the semi-public spaces of daily living from the private retreat areas, the ground floor was constructed in solid masonry while the upper floor employs timber frame construction. The exterior walls of the ground floor consist of rendered masonry and concrete. The insulated timber construction of the upper floor is lined internally with gypsum board and plaster; on the exterior, fiber cement panels protect the facades facing both streets. The upper floor opens generously toward the garden through expansive windows set within the rendered facade.
The ground floor accommodates the living areas, kitchen and dining space, a work studio, and a guest bathroom. Floor-to-ceiling glazing visually connects the living spaces to the outdoor areas. Warm-toned oak parquet flooring provides a pleasant contrast to the white rendered walls and the glossy white kitchen cabinetry. A fireplace stove is integrated into the wall within the living area. The concrete ceilings remain exposed, accommodating the artificial lighting fixtures. A small square pool with steps is sunken into the timber terrace in front.
The upper floor houses the private realm of the five-member family, containing three children's bedrooms, a bathroom, and the master bedroom with walk-in closet. From here, the parents enjoy views across the city and the surrounding landscape. A cohesive lighting concept throughout the interior and exterior subtly accentuates the house and allows the architecture to make an impact even at night. The project was planned and executed over approximately two years.
