It's not just emerging startups embracing new workplace concepts—established firms are too. The Wellensiek law firm is a prime example, having partnered with Savigny Interior and roomseventeen (Ariane Mostert) to reimagine its entire open-plan area, including distinct work zones, cafeteria, video lounge, and conference room. While modern communication technology, flexible remote work, and the blurring of professional and personal life shape today's workplace, face-to-face interaction remains vital. The redesigned space was specifically conceived to foster spontaneous employee dialogue—because innovation often happens in hallway conversations. Forward-thinking companies increasingly recognize this, weaving informal meeting spaces into their work environments. Residential-inspired settings naturally encourage connection, idea exchange, company loyalty, and ultimately, better results.

The firm envisioned a bright, welcoming workspace where employees could move freely and choose their ideal working mode—traditional desk with dual monitors or a comfortable chair with laptop. Critically, the open-plan area with the cafeteria as its social hub was central to their vision.

To balance maximum flexibility with visual cohesion, the designers unified diverse work settings—from conventional desks to alcove seating, varied armchairs, rocking chairs, cafeteria bar seating, and video booths. Distinct zones define the layout, yet carefully curated materials and a consistent aqua palette (echoing the company's brand colors) tie everything together. In the open-plan area, soft, tactile fabrics in varied finishes invite comfort and wellbeing, intentionally departing from sterile office conventions. Warm wood tones create a visual counterbalance to the blue palette. The new cafeteria—the space's beating heart—serves dual purpose as both social hub and workspace. A custom carpenter crafted the kitchen, complete with wine cooler and integrated seating banquettes, while strategic wallpaper adds spatial depth.

Recognizing lighting's critical impact on workplace experience, the team designed a warm, inviting ambiance—a deliberate contrast to typical corporate fluorescence. Suspended pendant fixtures provide ideal task lighting while avoiding institutional feel. The result: luminous, residential warmth that reflects how seamlessly work and life now intertwine.
