Distinctive & Connected
A law firm in Longerich reimagines its office design around collaboration and community
Laufenberg Michels, an auditing and tax consulting firm, sought to transform its Longerich location from a traditional office layout into a dynamic workspace that fosters genuine collaboration and reimagines how people connect. Working with interior design firm stanke interiordesign from Euskirchen, they developed a New Work project that projects professionalism and presence while cultivating a sense of community within. The design employs an open, layered spatial structure that establishes distinct functional zones without sacrificing flexibility or fluid movement between areas. At its heart lies the Team Area—the social and communicative hub of the space. This multipurpose ensemble seamlessly integrates a kitchen, lounge, and platform stage, accommodating spontaneous gatherings, focused presentations, and diverse event formats. With 42 permanently installed seats that expand to accommodate up to 100 people, it adapts effortlessly to different needs. Smart design choices amplify this flexibility: an acoustically treated curtain can isolate presentations from the rest of the space, while the kitchen remains accessible to employees—allowing multiple activities to coexist without interference. The result is a space that balances openness with intentional functional design.
A key challenge lay in integrating all functional requirements so they'd work both practically and spatially. Full-height custom cabinetry thoughtfully divides the spaces—both acoustically and visually—creating subtle structure throughout. Material and color reinforce this logic: a deep forest green establishes a sense of retreat and calm in the lounge and presentation zones, while crisp white opens up the kitchen and circulation areas. Warm oak wood ties it all together. The design also honors the firm's corporate identity: the distinctive CI light green and X motif weave through the entire scheme as unifying design threads. These elements organize the various functional areas cohesively and create a place that builds identity, sparks collaboration, and makes company culture tangible. The outcome is a workspace that succeeds both functionally and emotionally—one that embodies the firm's values in a contemporary way.
