A new, flexible, and dynamic spatial concept anchors Gothaer Insurance's transformation in corporate culture. Architecture and design firm bkp crafted an innovative, multifunctional workspace for the company's Cologne headquarters—one that prioritizes interaction and agile teamwork. Across the initial 2,000 m² pilot space at the head office, employees were central to the design process, resulting in an office landscape that truly serves how people work today.

Beyond individual and shared workstations, the open-plan layout features several "active zones"—nature-inspired spaces perfect for collaborative exchange. Whether nestled between rolling green meadows or floating among the clouds, these environments create the ideal backdrop for project work and creative thinking. Natural motifs and raw materials enhance employee well-being, inviting them to move through distinct atmospheres throughout their day. When focus is needed, nature-printed curtains provide both visual and acoustic privacy without disrupting the flow. Mobile partition walls maximize flexibility, serving triple duty as privacy screens, room dividers, and whiteboards—all contributing to the acoustic design. This approach enables seamless transitions between concentrated work and collaborative interaction. Acoustic ceiling panels above workstations further refine the soundscape, blending form and function throughout. In open areas, exposed building systems remain visible on the raw ceiling to preserve the generous ceiling height. The "active zones" feature matching acoustic panels coordinated with their nature imagery. The standout feature, however, is the coffee bar designed after Cologne's beloved kiosk tradition. With candy-colored pendant lights, a graffiti wall, neon signage, and inviting armchairs, it captures the city's convivial spirit. A striped awning, sweet-filled baskets, and a proper bar counter lined with stools complete the effect—every detail crafted to transform a coffee break into a genuine moment of respite.
