Classically modern

Sculptural detached house with separate areas for parents and children

The almost trapezoidal, approximately 700 m² sloping plot is located in an established residential area. Strict building regulations restricted the development of the already difficult building plot. The Peter Fischer architectural firm in Donzdorf developed a classic modern structure with a flat roof based on the requirements, which now blends in naturally with the existing traditional buildings with tiled roofs.

Facing the street, the white plastered house appears rather closed, but opens up to the secluded garden. The shape of the building resembles a sculpture, which is further emphasised by the widely projecting upper floor. The entrance is located in the slightly sunken basement next to the double garage with storage space. From the garage, an intermediate cloakroom area leads directly into the house, where a straight single-flight staircase leads to the bright ground floor. Here, the kitchen, dining area and, offset to the side, the living room with an open fireplace as a retreat are arranged in a row. Two floor-to-ceiling sliding doors connect the dining area with the spacious terrace. This extends the living area outdoors and leads directly into the garden. The central staircase, which is open over two floors, leads to the upper floor, where the bedrooms, children's rooms and bathrooms are located. Parents and children each have their own areas of the building, which are connected by a suspended bridge. In total, the family of five has approximately 350 m² of living and usable space at their disposal. The building services and other ancillary rooms are located in the basement, which has a full cellar. Durable materials were to be used in the construction of the building, so the architects designed the house as a solid structure with reinforced concrete ceilings and walls, which were insulated with 20 cm thick insulation and then plastered. The underfloor heating and hot water are supplied by an air heat pump, which is also used to cool the house in summer. A photovoltaic system is installed on the flat roof, which is not visible from the outside. The construction process took exactly two years from the building permit to the complete completion of the detached house, including all outdoor facilities.
