Shaped by the times
His products address everyday needs—thoughtfully designed objects that enhance life or eliminate clutter.
For 20 years, Christoph Schneider worked as an editor and managing director at a Cologne-based film and video post-production company. Yet his ambition to create his own products proved stronger. In 2015, he shifted direction and founded Penworks, a design label now based in his Bonn studio. There, he designs and manufactures lamps and home accessories inspired by contemporary sensibilities—products that tackle everyday needs by improving life or reducing excess. His guiding principle: fewer possessions, each serving a clear purpose. Quality craftsmanship, ethical production, natural materials. His collection includes minimalist wall hooks in solid oak—capable of holding jackets, scarves, hats, clothes hangers, even bicycle helmets with their impressive 5 kg load capacity when mounted on solid walls. The Kube series offers bowls in various sizes and finishes, crafted from leather scraps and rubber. They're effortless to clean with a damp cloth and perfect for storing keys, phones, and mail. The refined Alva lamp pairs a solid oak disc with a recessed porcelain socket, available with either a 30W carbon filament bulb or a silver vapour-coated LED in Edison style. The Frida XL wall light features a powder-coated, subtly textured matte finish, complemented by a natural oak plywood backing that emphasises the fixture's organic character and adjustable height.
